Royal Reverie with Illuminum Orange Blossom

experience-3

Those obsessed by Britain’s royals probably know that the fragrance Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day came from the fragrance house Illuminum.

Launched in London by the same perfumer who founded the Boadicea line, Illuminum was introduced in 2011 as a luxury fragrance house that creates eaux de parfums based on four fragrance families: floral, citrus, musk, and oud.

Blended with Tunisian orange and petitgrain (the essential oil derived from the leaves and green twigs of the bitter orange plant), Illuminum Orange Blossom is exactly what its name promises.

Historically, petitgrain has been used to calm the mind and body and Illuminum Orange Blossom is akin to a morning walk through an orange grove in early spring when the fruit is still green on the trees. You feel calmer each time you inhale.

With the passage of time – say, late in the afternoon in the orange grove – there’s a hint of musk in the air, which melds into base notes of Somalian frankincense and myrrh.  Gifts for a royal, indeed.

Located in Mayfair, the Illuminum Perfume Lounge offers a sumptous setting for a thoughtful consideration of the house’s 37 evocative fragrances.

It’s here that you might sink into a royal reverie of your own.
