Make Way for Ducklings at Hilton Montreal Bonaventure

Rooftop Gardens

Even after only a day in residence at the Hilton Bonaventure in Montreal, you might understand why it is that the hotel’s resident ducks never want to leave their rooftop sanctuary all year long.

That’s right: just as The Peabody in Memphis has its signature ducks who parade across the lobby, so does the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure have its rooftop mallards who delight residents at this penthouse hotel.

Located atop the Place Bonaventure (which was the world’s largest single building at its inauguration in 1967 as the Canada Trade Centre), the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure features more than two acres of beautifully landscaped rooftop gardens. The outdoor heated penthouse pool is open year-round for Hilton Bonaventure guests – while the hotel’s ducks have their own rooftop pond.

Regardless of what time of year you’re in residence at the Hilton Bonaventure, the panoramic views of Montreal and the St. Lawrence River are spectacular.  Equally alluring is the sense of privacy and serenity that comes from living high in the sky. As you meander along the rooftop garden’s flagstone paths, it’s hard to believe that you’re in the middle of the world’s second largest francophone city. Adirondack chairs flank waterfalls and it’s easy to spend an afternoon relaxing with a book while ducklings splash happily in the water.

Should you tear yourself away from the rooftop pleasures of the Hilton Bonaventure, you’ll find yourself within a short walk to Montreal’s primary shopping and fashion district. The Bell Center, home of the Montreal Canadiens, is almost next door, while a walk to the peak of Mont Royal Park rewards you with a view from the highest point in the city.

The hotel’s 395 rooms and suites are comfortably appointed with upholstered chairs, mahogany furniture, and granite countertops.  Executive Rooms include evening cocktails and a deluxe continental breakfast. The 24-hour fitness center features Precor equipment.

An abundant breakfast buffet at Restaurant-Jardins le Castillon can be enjoyed in the main dining room with its stone fireplace or on the terrace in the rooftop gardens. The hotel’s bistro bar, Le Belvedere, is nestled in the hotel’s lobby.

Throughout the Hilton Bonaventure, there’s a sense of calm and well-being that is a testament to the pleasures of Montreal and the kindness of Canadians.  You’ll be as happy as a duck.
