Throughout the book, chefs offer some of their most favorite seasonal recipes for events such as a New England clambake to a Gilded Age-inspired New Year\u2019s Eve celebration.\u00a0 As O\u2019Connell writes in his introduction, \u201cStudying the efforts of these experts [reveals the role] of advance planning\u2026as well as the key ingredients of fun and whimsy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Texas Hill Country, the Inn at Dos Brisas<\/a> serves a rustic farm picnic bursting with indigenous wildflowers. The \u201cQueen of Atlantic resorts,\u201d Rhode Island\u2019s Ocean House<\/a>, hosts an annual Fourth of July Beach Ball marked by a seven-foot dessert stand displaying 4,000 cupcakes and gateaux and a fireworks spectacle from the hotel\u2019s barge on the bay. What better estate to host a Gatsbyesque bash than this Italianate villa in the lower Hudson Valley? According to event designer Matthew Robbins, the best parties are those where \u201cguests feel\u2026immersed in the party and consumed by the\u2026details.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the Fearrington House Inn<\/a>, Sunday brunch honors its aristocratic British antecedents as a post-hunt breakfast with a menu that creates a \u201csense of comfort, and conversation that embodies the easygoing\u2026attributes of the South,\u201d which, in this case, means savory cornbread waffles with slivered smoked salmon and cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche. Perhaps needless to say, there\u2019s also shrimp and grits, albeit with the addition of Parmesan.<\/p>\n
