Cire Trudon Lights the Darkness

Amidst the darkness of the current season, even a small glow can make a big difference.

To alter the atmosphere, consider a candle from Cire Trudon. Founded in 1643 as wax supplier to the imperial courts of France, Cire Trudon reigns as the oldest candle manufacturer in the world.

As the Royal wax manufacturer for the Queen and her court at Versailles, Cire Trudon accessed the best wax collected from the beehives of the Kingdom. In 1811, Napoleon celebrated his son’s birth with a Trudon candle encrusted with three gold coins. Today, Cire Trudon’s motto remains “The bees work for God – and the King.”

For Holiday 2016, Cire Trudon’s collection Odeurs d’Hiver is redolent of winter fragrances—and a reminder of a moment when joy ruled the world.

Cire Trudon’s Gaspard candle honors the Magi king from India with a vibrant and sensual fragrance of sandalwood and mandarin that connotes the king’s brilliant orange raiments in its shimmering reflection. The candle’s heart notes of jasmine and rose segue into a bourbon vanilla base surrounded by mysore sandalwood.

Each of the three holiday candles in the collection Odeurs d’Hiver is lined with gold foil, which enables the candlelight to flicker like a fire against the hand-blown glass vessels in shades of amber, celadon, and taupe.

In celebration of the angel Gabriel, Cire Trudon has created a warm fragrance with notes of birch wood and candied chestnuts, cashmere wood, moss, and patchouli, while the candle anointed Bethléem offers spicy notes of saffron, cardamom, musk, and tonka bean, with an amber and cedar base.

All three scents are available in an Odeurs d’Hiver gift set, should the choice of one prove too difficult.

In celebration of the holidays, Cire Trudon’s most emblematic fragrances (Abd El Kader, Ernesto, Nazareth) are offered in gold in three sizes (from 9.5 ounces to nearly seven pounds), with glass vessels decorated in gold leaf applied by hand.

Made in Normandy, France and housed in gold-crested, hand-blown green glass vessels hand-poured in Vinci, Italy, Cire Trudon’s signature candles are poured from Trudon’s in-house vegetal wax, a mixture of soya and copra (dried coconut kernels), with a pure cotton wick.

Located on Elizabeth Street in Nolita, Cire Trudon’s Manhattan boutique offers Cire Trudon’s classic collection of 25 perfumed candles along with limited editions, as well as room sprays, scented matches, gift sets, and wax busts. Cire Trudon éteignoirs enable a candle wick to be extinguished without smoke—and easily lit anew. Distributed in 64 countries, Cire Trudon’s candles are entirely biodegradable.

This holiday season, let’s all work for a world marked by more light.
